SMC, City Celebrate Arbor Day with Tree Planting Grant Recipients

NOBLESVILLE, IN (April 25, 2025) – Today, SMC Corporation of America joined Mayor Chris Jensen, Noblesville Tree Board members, volunteers, and neighbors to plant trees in the Wellington NE subdivision, which was a 2025 Noblesville Tree Planning Grant recipient. The city marks 35 consecutive years of being named a Tree City USA recipient by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Last year, the city and SMC, the largest private employer in Noblesville, partnered to create a tree-planting grant program to coincide with Earth Day and Arbor Day. Led by the Tree Board, 2025 marks the second year of the grant program.

“Arbor Day is a time to celebrate the invaluable contributions trees make to our community,” said Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen. “I extend my gratitude to SMC Corporation of America and the Tree Board for creating and continuing this new avenue for collaboration, which will undoubtedly benefit our community and the sustainability of our natural resources for generations to come.”

“Sustainability is one of SMC’s core values, and we are dedicated to supporting initiatives that create lasting positive change for our environment and community,” said Kelley Stacy, President, CEO of SMC Corporation of America. “Our ongoing partnership with the City of Noblesville on this annual tree planting grant is a testament to this commitment. We’re proud to contribute to green spaces that not only enhance quality of life today, but also help build a healthier future for generations to come.”

SMC Corporation donated $2,500 to the tree planting grant program, which the City of Noblesville has matched through Mayor Jensen and the Common Council. Grant recipients for 2025—including Wellington NE, Deer Path HOA, Potter Woods HOA, Wellington NE HOA Board, and 508 W. Washington Street—will receive the 23 native trees purchased through the grant funding. The types of trees planted include sugar maple, oak, and tulip trees.

“The Tree Board is proud to partner with SMC and our community to expand the city’s tree canopy. Trees play a vital role in enhancing air quality, reducing stormwater runoff, and providing shade for our city. We look forward to continuing this important work for years to come,” said Noblesville Tree Board President Ashley Mulis.
