Trail Development

The 2010 Citizen Survey told us what we assumed was true: trail development and recreation is very important to our residents. Our Noblesville Alternative Transportation Plan (or NAT Plan) is updated often so that we can respond to growing populations and neighborhoods.

Connectivity

One thing in particular that we have often heard is the importance of the connectivity of our existing inventory of trails. So, the Mayor's Office, Economic Development, Parks and Engineering sat down with maps of our existing trails network and identified a list of connections that we would like to implement in the coming months and years.

Three of those connections will be bid and constructed in the next 6-9months including:

-Boden Road to the south to connect into Greenfield Avenue

-Waterman Farms up Greenfield to Union Chapel Road

-Hazel Dell Woods to Hazel Dell Elementary

The other connections, in no particular order, are pending as all departments continue to try and identify funding sources as well as grant development:

-Morse Point to Hinkle Creek Elementary School

-Hague Road north of 196th Street

-NW of the Carrigan Road Bridge

-Union Chapel Road south of Golden Bear

-SR 32 to the Hamilton East Public Library

-Wellington North up Allisonville Road to Downtown Noblesville

-Allisonville Road connection to Potter's Bridge

Riverwalk

Phase 2 of the Downtown RiverWalk will be bid out in October of 2012. This section will connect the underpass at SR32/Conner Street and the pedestrian bridge spanning the White River that leads to Forest Park. This has been a long time coming and specific decisions were made in order to protect pedestrian and biker interests (such as going beneath Logan Street rather than crossing at grade at the stoplight) as well as aesthetics.

 Update!!

Phase II of the Riverwalk was approved to be put out to bid today, October 11th. We thought it would be nice to put up some graphic images to show the plans that will be bid on (we uploaded them as PDFs so that you could zoom in as needed):

Phase II South Section-This detailed site plan shows the southern section of Phase II that includes hooking into the underpass on the north side of Conner Street/SR32, crossing behind the Judicial Center at grade and dipping back underneath the Logan Street Bridge.

Phase II North Section-This detailed site plan shows the northern half of Phase II as it continues its journey riverside cut into the White River bank. This section includes stair access to the public lot on the north side of Logan Street as well as an overlook feature much like those seen on the White River Greenway Trail.

Phase II Wall Section-This section shows portions of the retaining wall that will line much of the trail. It will include decorative concrete and railings much like the Phase I portion of the trail to the south.

Phase II Planting Detail-This planting detail gives a glimpse of the type of landscaping that will be incorporated into Phase II. This includes but is not limited to Armstrong Freeman Maple trees, Upright European Beech trees, Blue Spruce trees, Dogwood and Hoptree shrubs, and Cariegated Lilytuft for groundcover. These plants were selected in order to mitigate erosion, for their hardiness in case of wet or dry seasons and for their aesthetic nature.

Midland Trace

New traction is also forming on the development of Noblesville's section of the Midland Trace Trail. We realize that this is a delicate development process–especially as far as ownership is concerned. Therefor we will be rolling out a public input and communication platform specifically on this development at the end of 2011/beginning of 2012. Look for more information coming soon!
