Noblesville officials broke ground today on Little Chicago Road Trail, an 8-foot-wide multi-use trail that runs from Indiana 38 to the South Harbour Elderberry Entrance. Little Chicago Road Trail consists of 2,700 feet of new trail and the widening of 2,500 feet of existing 4-foot sidewalk. The new trail will connect to the city’s existing trail network and continue south along Hazel Dell Parkway to 146th Street.

“We are increasing Noblesville’s trail availability and connectivity, which accomplishes a goal of making the city more walkable,” said Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear. “Making these trail connections are just as important as the larger projects. Having more options and longer stretches of trails allows our residents to be outdoors and active.”

Little Chicago Road is the first of five trail connector projects the city will complete this year. Other 8-foot wide trail projects include:

  • 460 feet on 156th Street, east of Summer Road.
  • 405 feet on Cumberland Road, north of SMC Boulevard.
  • 425 feet on Greenfield Avenue, west of Summer Road.
  • Connecting a small gap on Stony Creek Trail, east of Regal Cinemas Noblesville 10.

Trail work has been a focus this year as two projects near completion:

* Noblesville’s Midland Trace Trail Project Phase I started paving on Aug. 17. The 12-foot wide multi-use trail will be completed in September. The trailhead along Hazel Dell Parkway will be finished around Memorial Day 2018. Phase II, which will extend the trail east to Willowview Road, will begin next year.

* The Riverwalk project, in partnership with Hamilton County, is receiving its finishing touches and will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 25. By finishing the third phase, the project provides the missing link of the half-mile trail along the east side of the White River in Downtown Noblesville.
